Ingredients
3 lbs Potatoes (Red or Gold)
1 Yellow Onion, Diced
2 Cloves Garlic, Minced
4 Tbsp Butter
1/4 Cup Flour
2 Cup Hot Milk
1 Cup Chicken Broth
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Pepper
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Slice potatoes 1/4 inch thick with knife or mandoline. Set aside.
- In a large sauce pan, melt butter over medium low heat with onions and garlic. Cook until onion is softened, about 3 minutes. Add flour and cook for a couple of minutes until golden brown.
- Reduce heat to low. Slowly whisk in milk and broth (1/2 cup at a time). Whisk mixture until thick and smooth. Add salt and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium heat while continuing to whisk for 1 minute.
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish. Place 1/3 of the potatoes in the bottom and season with salt and pepper. Add 1/3 of the cream sauce over top. Repeat layers ending with cream sauce. Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Broil for 3-5 minutes until golden brown on top. Rest for 15 minutes before serving.
